Overview

Keymap does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. Our philosophy is simple: everything stays on your Mac. There is no account creation, no cloud storage, no telemetry, and no analytics. You don't need to trust us with your data because we never see it.

Data stored locally

Keymap stores the following data exclusively on your local device:

  • Shortcut usage statistics — which shortcuts you press, how often, and in which apps. Used to power the Usage Statistics feature (Premium).
  • Extracted shortcuts — a cached list of shortcuts read from each app's menu bar. Refreshed automatically.
  • Remapping rules — your custom key remappings, stored as local preferences.
  • Settings — app preferences like theme, trigger keys, and panel behavior.
  • License key — stored securely in the macOS Keychain. Never written to disk in plain text.

Accessibility permission usage

Keymap requires Accessibility access to read application menu bars and detect keyboard shortcuts. This permission is granted by you in macOS System Settings and can be revoked at any time. When revoked, Keymap will not function until the permission is restored.

No network tracking, analytics, or telemetry

Keymap does not make any network requests except for a single, one-time license validation check when you activate Premium (see License Validation below). There are no analytics SDKs, no tracking pixels, no crash reporters, and no telemetry of any kind.

90-day auto-purge for usage records

Shortcut usage records older than 90 days are automatically deleted. This keeps storage minimal and ensures that even local data does not grow indefinitely.

License validation

When you activate Premium, Keymap performs a one-time check with our payment processor to verify your license key. This check transmits only the license key itself — no browsing data, no device identifiers, and no personal information. After initial activation, the app works offline with a 7-day grace period before requesting revalidation.
